Sidney Yates’ generosity and friendship lives on.

yates-with-flowersSt. Mary colleagues, community leaders, friends and family of Sidney T. Yates gathered at St. Mary on September 28th to honor his memory and legacy. In a ceremony led by St. Mary President and CEO, James Woodward, the existing outpatient building was renamed the “Sidney T. Yates Outpatient Building.” A monument located at the flagpole circle outside and bearing the facility’s new name was unveiled during the ceremony.

Mr. Yates was a founding member of the St. Mary Board of Directors and Trustees when the hospital opened in 1973 and remained an active member of the Hospital Authority Board until his death in 2013. Sidney was also a member of the Foundation Board from 1989 until 1998. Giving back to the community was something in which he strongly believed. In addition to his involvement with St. Mary, Mr. Yates was active in numerous community organizations.mr-yates

His faith in the mission and vision of St. Mary was evidenced by his generous contribution of both personal service and financial gifts exceeding $12 million. Renaming of the building in his honor is a reflection of the gratitude of the St. Mary community and a lasting tribute to his leadership, dedication and support throughout the years.

The three-story Sidney T. Yates Outpatient Building currently houses many St. Mary services including Same Day Surgery, imaging, blood lab testing, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, Cardiovascular Catheterization Lab, Wellness and Holistic Services Center and a portion of emergency and trauma services.
